This is an informational page for all
coaches of GCU.
Information regarding the Lower State Youth Soccer Association
recreational league can be found at http://www.lsysa.net.
The SCYSA
2008-2009 Calendar is now available.
All members of the Board, coaches and other volunteers who work
with the players must complete a Volunteer Disclosure
Form. Completed forms must be turned in
to Kim Malmgren, Club Registrar.
For the 2008-2009 season, all coaches MUST be licensed. Email
Pina
Ernst, Director of Coaches, for more
information.
Please make sure you read our Code
of Conduct. Let's keep this game
from becoming like other sports.
You will need to have each player and his/her parent(s)/guardian(s)
complete a Medical
Release Form as soon after practices start, as is reasonable.
It is the policy of US Youth Soccer, SCYSA and GCU that no alcohol be
sold at or brought to any of our games. It is each member's responsibility to
ensure that this policy is strictly followed.
Please be aware that insurance coverage is not effective if you play a
team which is not registered with SCYSA. Questions should be directed to Cathy
Ballentine, Coastal District Commissioner, at 856-7309 or by E-mail at
CMC408@bellsouth.net
Permission to travel outside of District 3 requires the prior approval of the
District Commissioner, Cathy Ballentine. Contact information is above.
For travel outside of South Carolina but within District 3, SCYSA must still
be notified but no formal permission is required.
If you have a player injury and they wish to file a claim with the SCYSA
carrier, contact Cathy Ballentine, District Commissioner, for the necessary
forms. Contact information is above. Please note that this coverage is
secondary to other medical insurance.
You need to contact Kim
Malmgren, Club Registrar, to obtain tournament
rosters and guest passes. She will need at least 10 days in advance of
tournament play to get a roster and to add guest players.
Coaches should have in their possession an original copy of the state
roster and player and coach passes for all league and tournament play.
If
there are any errors on the player passes, corrections need to be made
immediately upon receipt.
Passes must have the following:
- A player photograph taken within the last six months.
- No hats, headbands, dark glasses can be included in the photograph.
- Players must sign their name in cursive just as it appears on the
card.
- Cards must be laminated and maintained alphabetically.
- If you coach more than one team you should have a separate pass for
each team.
All classic level teams must maintain a red
card tracking form. Falsification of any information on
this form is considered an breach of ethics. SCYSA has indicated that,
except for State Cup play, these tracking forms are no longer required to be
completed during in-state or out-of-state invitational tournaments. If
there are any questions, please contact Pina
Ernst, Director of Coaches.

As coaches, you have a responsibility to ensure that the player and
spectator environment is safe for everyone concerned. Below is some guidance
on what to look for to ensure a safe environment exists. This list is
not intended to be all-inclusive; common sense should always prevail.
Before any practice or game you should inspect all goals
to ensure that:
• No open hooks exist that could injure a player
• No rusted
or weak areas are on the posts or crossbars
• No jagged or sharp points are
on the posts
• The goals are properly secured and anchored.
Before any practice or game you should inspect all fields
and grounds to ensure that:
• The fields are safe to play on (no sharp
objects, problems with sprinkler heads, etc)
• Fixed objects (bleachers,
benches, trash cans, etc.) are a safe distance from the field and are
properly maintained
• Storage sheds and all equipment, including chemicals,
pose no danger to unsupervised children.
Thanks for doing your part to make this game as safe as possible.
